politikos mokslai statusas T sritis Politika apibrėžtis Socialinių mokslų kryptis, tyrinėjanti ir aiškinanti politikos reiškinius. Palyginti nauja disciplina; susiformavimas siejamas su mokslo metodo, kaip jį eksplikavo pozityvistai, taikymu politikos studijoms. Kaip disciplina, siekianti moksliškai paaiškinti politinę tikrovę, susiformavo ir buvo suinstitucinta 19 a. antroje pusėje. Mokslinio pažinimo standartai atmetė tradicinius normatyvinius klausimus, į kuriuos neįmanoma pateikti mokslinių atsakymų, tai savo ruožtu lėmė politikos filosofijos, kaip nepriklausančios politikos mokslams, išskyrimą (20 a. viduryje). Metodologinės minties raida pakeitė moksliškumo sampratą, ir nuo 20 a. antros pusės politikos mokslais vadinamos visos politikos studijos pagal akademinės bendruomenės pripažįstamus pažinimo standartus. Skirstomi į šakas; dėl jų struktūros tvirto sutarimo nėra. Paprastai skiriamos šakos: lyginamoji politika, politikos filosofija, tarptautiniai santykiai, viešoji politika ir viešasis administravimas; įvairios tarpdisciplininės šakos: politikos sociologija, politinė antropologija, politinė komunikacija ir t. t. atitikmenys: angl. political science ryšiai: susijęs terminas – lyginamoji politika susijęs terminas – politikos sociologija susijęs terminas – politinė antropologija susijęs terminas – tarptautiniai santykiai susijęs terminas – tarptautiniai santykiai
